Child Development at it’s best!
So quickly our little ones grow into young adults. They are
not quite to adult hood, nor am I reaching the teenage years. However I wonder
who my little people will be one day. Alleyah is now 8 years old, followed by
Noah who is now 6 and Levi just 1 year.
I studied a great deal of child development in the States
while attaining my education degree. Before I had children I knew a lot, but
then I had children and now I know how little I really know!
But, I do always remember how children all have their
different ways of expressing their selves. I have to say both my daughter and
son are very much different in their taste of things. Noah can care less about
his hair and Alleyah can spend 30 minuets on herself in the mirror. Alleyah
finds a good shirt and wears it for days (if I let her) and Noah takes 3 to 4
tries before finding the right outfit for the day.
So here is my ramble. I am currently living overseas in a
place where fashion is well…hmm, yeah not an issue lets say. I find myself
pretty relaxed as to what my kids decide to put on for the day. But today my
son caught my eye. He decided to match today. All red!
So I was thinking, if I were in America and sending him to
school among many other kids, I would think about what others would say, or
maybe think about what other kids would say. Instead here I am, letting Noah
express his personality in RED. Instead of choosing his clothes for him, I
decided, its ok, no one cares here. I then had to think about my own thoughts.
Is it even necessary to change a little guys clothes? He likes it, he loves it,
he is pretty happy in his choice. So if I tell him no, will it hurt his little
personality? Yes, it would make him feel bad. I think sometimes I let my
standards get in the way of child development, and positive parenting. Today
however I think I did ok. And, now
I smile at him with joy, “that's my boy! He’s the one in RED, can’t miss him!”
Kids are kids, so lets enjoy every minute!
